Lyricist Is a spoken word competition television series. The concept of the reality series involves discovering poets and spoken word artists from across the country by having them perform original poetry pieces on a national stage. Lyricist employs a panel of celebrity poets and spoken word artists who judge and critique the contestants’ performances.

The judges carefully and strategically decide the topics that the contestants are to write and speak about. The contestants must create and perform an original piece about that topic on the following show. The winner is determined by viewers using phones, the Internet, and SMS text voting. The grand prize is $100,000.
